Petal Metal Punked?
Created out of Smashbox Studios L.A. these cruelty free products are easily accessible at most Ultas, Sephoras, and through their own website with free shipping I might add. At first I tried Smashbox for just that reason, it was cruelty free, easy to get my hands on, I already liked their mascara I had as a sample and they had a grey liquid lipstick? After that first tube, I was hooked. My infatuation with this brand only grew stronger when I had ordered off of their website and received an order with a multiple of one and missing the third color of a trio. They resent the order right away and the lady on the phone was pleasant. Since then I have been apart of their rewards program and I find it more rewarding than any other I've tried (including Ulta & Sephora, in which I detail more of their pros and cons in my lil' Penny Pincher tips) and on top of a birthday present they even remembered our anniversary, awwww, and for that they gave me the jumbo primer you see below in the back.
I was lured in with Smashbox's Chill Zone, or Punked color, their signature gray, I find it soooo flattering vs. some other completely neutral grays. I think items named "Punked" came out ofter Chill Zone, the liquid lipstick maybe, but they look like the same shade and now there's almost a full line of Punked including the eyeshadow palette, lip liner on the right plus a matte metallic lip. (Also a Bold Lip color palette which I have, but left out of this, but it lives in my daily bag.) These "Punked" items were my first favorites but then my jaw dropped for the Petal Metal Collection Smashbox did with Vlada seen on the left side my selection of favorites. There are even more items to the collection of well like glitter drops and additional lip and blushes. With rose gold and gray being my two favorite colors right now these products are in my daily life so I wanted to share them with your together but separate, so here's a Petal Metal vs. Punked.
Below are images of their packaging, beautiful. Eye shadow palettes are the same size, price, number of shadows, and fun holograms on top, what's there now to love? Petal Metal is all shiny and Rose Gold, beautiful to leave out even, but Smashbox's standard packaging on the right is not shabby and I appreciate their liquid lipsticks are square and do not roll! All the products are packaged practical but clean and pleasing.
Seen on the left below is my skin swatch for the Petal Metal Cover Shot Eye Palette and on the right is skin swatches for Punked, you can click to view in full and larger in a mini gallery format. Both feature metallics and mattes, plus light and darks so you can actually build an entire eye look using just one palette, Smashbox wins at this, I get so frustrated with others that I still have to add a highlight or a black for my looks and can't just pack one palette.
I had tried another rose gold eyeliner before and I loved it, so when Petal Metal came out with one, plus a black eyeliner with pink glitter I knew I had to have them, and I'm glad I did, they are both different and so flattering for different looks. With Gilded Rose highlighter and In Bloom lip, in such flattering fun flirty colors, even with my face all gilded up with metallics and glitter I still find it almost natural, and very flattering.
Below are swatches of Punked Matte Lipstick, the lip liner and Chill Zone Always on Liquid Lipstick, you can see their are all the same hue, but little different properties.
Flattering, flirty and fun. Even though there's a lot of shiny and glitter in the collection, even with so much on my face I felt like it wasn't too much for a day trip out but instead felt glamorous. Plus I thought it complimented my Edwardian-ish look for the day. I've been a fan of rose gold liner for a while now, but the last one I had, not as much of a fan of the company so when Smashbox was launching this I counted down the days. Any shiny or metallic liner just above your usual liner on a cat eye look is a simple way to stun even an everyday look. I've had so many compliments, I almost feel guilty for accepting when it's so easy to just add an extra line, it makes your eyes pop as you blink.
I've been a growing fan of this brand after trying Chill Zone, the gray Always on Liquid Lipstick featured in this post. Since then Smashbox has come out with pretty much a whole line of "Punked" gray including a lip liner and the eyeshadow palette below plus a "Bold" Lipstick palette that includes their signature gray.
